Release Manager
We like to think of ourselves as more than just developers. We're a friendly group of around 500 people with plenty of casual and hardcore gamers, tech heads and creative masterminds, organized planners, and nerdy game fans who make this industry so fun. And we’re all together on a mission to open windows to amazing worlds. We've been making games for over 30 years, crafting and publishing unique experiences that have put us on the path to becoming a leader in Online Worlds.
We've got five studios spread across Norway, the USA, Portugal, Sweden, and Romania, and we're always on the lookout for more dedicated people to join our ranks.
We're all about creating a relaxed and equal workspace where flat communication and our agile structure are key to delivering world-class games.
So, if you're ready to make your mark, we're ready to welcome you!
Your Mission in Funcom
We’re looking for a hands-on Release Manager for our end-to-end release pipeline across PC storefronts and 1st Party hardware. You’ll coordinate submissions, keep schedules honest, and work closely with Production, QA, and external platform partners to make sure every build that leaves the studio is suitable for release.
How you can have an impact in your position:
Submission & Release Management
• Plan, coordinate, and track all submissions for all platforms (e.g. Steam, Epic, PlayStation, Microsoft), including Age Ratings.
• Own the checklist for each release: required assets, store metadata, age ratings, platform requirements, build configuration, and timelines.
• Monitor cert / review status and proactively communicate risks, blockers, and next steps to the team.
• Verify first-party version updates, tools, and requirements
• Track and request app version updates per platform and release.
• Maintain a clear understanding of product schedules and platform requirements for all active titles.
• Alert leadership when timelines, requirements, or processes are at risk, and present practical mitigation options.
• Provide concise updates on submission status, cert risks, and release readiness to internal stakeholders.
• Provide extra, hands-on support for key milestones (e.g. launch, big patches, DLC, seasonal events).
• Coordinate final cert / approval cycles with QA and the dev team, ensuring known issues and risks are clearly documented.
Cross-team Coordination
• Work closely with Production, QA, Development, Marketing, Live Ops to align release dates, cut-off points, and content scope.
• Maintain a clear, up-to-date release calendar that everyone can rely on.
• Flag conflicts early (e.g. overlapping releases, content not ready, marketing beats shifting) and help the team re-plan realistically.
Tools, Workflow & Process
• Help define and improve our release workflows using our existing tools (e.g. Jira or similar, internal dashboards, build/CI systems, store backends).
• Ensure release related tickets and documentation are accurate and up to date (store tasks, platform submissions, patch notes, cert issues, etc.).
• Perform ad-hoc administrative tasks such as verifying first-party configuration details & managing branch settings or release configurations
• Request and manage access to first-party portals and publishing tools.
Platform & Partner Relations
• Build and maintain professional relationships with platform contacts (console, PC storefronts, mobile).
• Act as the primary point of contact for submission questions, policy clarifications, and scheduling discussions.
We are looking for you to have:
• Proven experience in Release Management, Publishing, or Live Operations for games or software products.
• Hands-on experience with console and PC release pipelines, including certification processes.
• Strong understanding of build pipelines, versioning, and deployment workflows.
• Experience working with first-party platforms (Microsoft, Sony, Steam, Epic).
• Ability to manage multiple releases in parallel across regions and platforms.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and risk awareness.
In addition, ideally, you might also have:
• Previous experience with console or PC Storefronts submissions (PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Epic).
• Familiarity with build/CI systems and bug tracking tools (e.g. Jira).
• Background in QA, production, or project management in a game studio.
• Experience shipping games as a live service (frequent patches, events, and hotfixes).
• Familiarity with backend services, server hosting partners, and live infrastructure
• Experience maintaining release documentation and compliance checklists.
We evaluate candidates on an ongoing basis and recommend candidates to apply as soon as possible!
