Your Mission in Funcom
Are you passionate about building worlds that players can explore and experience? As a Level Design Intern, you’ll get hands-on experience shaping environments that support both gameplay and visual storytelling. You’ll explore how architecture, pacing, and player choices come together to create meaningful play experiences.
How you can have an impact in your position
- Block out/greybox gameplay areas and iterate on layouts.
- Implement scripted gameplay moments (combat setups, interactable objects, simple blueprinting).
- Work with feedback to balance pacing, difficulty, and player experience.
- Learn how to give players clear signposting and meaningful choices.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure gameplay and visuals support each other.
We are looking for you to have
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine (level building, basic tools)
- Curiosity about gameplay loops, pacing, and player agency
- Strong communication skills in English.
- An interest in how different game disciplines (art, design, lighting, audio) work together
- A proactive, creative mindset — willing to share ideas and explore possibilities
- The ideal candidate
- You’ve already experimented with making games, through personal projects, mods, or school work.
- You’re eager to learn, share ideas, and adapt to feedback.
- You’re curious about how level design choices shape player experience (pacing, flow, exploration).
Application Guidelines
When applying, please include a cover letter that addresses the following points:
- Why are you interested in this internship, and what excites you about joining Funcom?
- What do you hope to learn from this experience, and how might it support your future career?
- What skills, strengths, and attitudes will you contribute to the team?
- Lastly, could you please include a link to your portfolio in your application? We appreciate that your portfolio is WIP, but whatever its state it is a valuable point for discussing how we can help you progress and what you can teach us!
We evaluate candidates on an ongoing basis and recommend candidates to apply as soon as possible!
